What is the Mother of Pearl?

The Mother of Pearl is essentially a mixture of mother of pearl and failed cultured pearls that have been ground into powder and compressed into round shapes through artificial production. Because it is artificially made, it is easier to shape than natural pearls and is typically made by pressing together the powdered material. Mother of pearl beads are created by grinding failed cultured pearls and shells into a powder, which is then shaped into a round form through artificial rolling or polished with natural seawater shells. Due to its artificial production, it is easier to shape than natural pearls and is more affordable in price.

Differences between mother of pearl and natural pearl:

Source: Mother of pearl beads are artificially processed and primarily made of mother of pearl.

Value: The core of bead pearls is synthetic, and the outer coating is made of chemical materials. Bead pearls are a kind of fake pearl and are made through a variety of advanced processes, but they do not have jewelry-grade value. However, due to their lower value, they are often used in the production and manufacture of jewelry.

Appearance: The surface of mother of pearl can be plated with various colors as needed, including silver-white, golden-yellow, peacock green, peacock blue, and black. The color of the surface of bead pearls is not natural but rather dyed in post-processing. Generally, it does not fade, but it is not wear-resistant and is easily scratched.
